Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (OEP)
Open Enrollment is defined as 6 months before and after either turning 65 or enrolling into Part B.
Example; your birthday is August 15th, 1956. Your Medicare will begin August 1st, 2021. You can apply for a Medicare supplement 6 months prior to this date of August 1st and 6 months after this date. It’s not from the 15th of the month as your birthday would imply.
Many people postpone enrolling into Part B as they are covered by their employer coverage. The same rules would apply for your Part B effective date. Example, your Medicare Part B effective dates is August 1st, 2021, you can enroll 6 months before and 6 months after this date regardless of when you turned 65.
